Almaden is proud to be working in Puebla.

Since we first began exploring the area in 2001, we have built long-term relationships in communities and have always been actively involved in the community’s health and social welfare. We have invested in ongoing employee training programs and helped with local projects including work on a school, public bathrooms, a community hall, a local church, and a hospital.

We take an active role in the community and have a central office in the town of Santa Maria Zotoltepec, which is always open to the community to answer any questions or provide information about the project. We also hold annual town hall meeting (excepting 2020 due to Covid) and have mobile information centres to make sure communities in the local area understand the work we are doing at Ixtaca and what they can expect in the future.

We work hard to make a positive social difference where we live and work. By supporting and financing projects that come from local groups, educating and employing local people, and respecting their culture and property, Almaden is committed to improving the quality of life in communities we work with and within.

Please read below for an overview of our community engagement and projects.

4,100

Nine Large-scale Annual Community Information Meetings to explain the project and answer questions. Our meeting in December 2018 was attended by over 800 people, and a total of 4,100 people from 35 communities have attended since our first town hall in 2012.

500

Almaden has taken 500 community members on 19 tours of working mines in Mexico, so local stakeholders can understand what a mine will mean to their community.

70

Almaden trains and employs as many locals as possible. 70 people from 5 local communities have been employed on the project to date.

20,000

Mobile Information Centres explaining the Ixtaca project have visited over 35 communities in the local area and spoken with over 20,000 individuals.

57

Almaden has hosted 57 Mining Dialogues for community members to learn about mining issues such as Mexican mining law, human rights and mining, and risk management. This is also an opportunity for us to explain the technical, geological, and environmental work we are doing at Ixtaca.
